Principal's Message

Dear Swift-Slaybaugh Families,

Just a friendly reminder that we will be holding costume parades and fall parties on Friday, October 30th. The parade times and party times are listed below. The best way for us to gain more time for the parties is to hold the parades in the morning and the parties separately in the afternoon. We thank you for understanding. The parades will be “come one, come all.” However, in an effort to maintain the safety of our students, we will be following a plan for the parties, which is laid out below.

10:00 - First Grade Parade
10:15- Third Grade Parade
10:30 - Kindergarten Parade
10:45- Second Grade Parade

1:15-2:15 - Second & Third Grade Parties, 2:00-3:00 - Kindergarten & First Grade Parties

Parades
Second and Third Grade parents, for the parades, you will be parking in the bus lot in front of Slaybaugh Elementary School. These parades will be occurring on the sidewalk in front of the school (see diagram below). Please stay off of the sidewalk where students will be walking. Kindergarten and First Grade parents, for the parades, you can park in the lot in front of Swift. These parades will be taking place in the parent drop-off/pick-up lane (see diagram below). Please stay either on the sidewalk or on the side of the barricades closest to the parking lot.

Party Plan for the Year
You should have had this same letter sent home with your child, which included a form at the bottom to fill it out, This should have been turned in to your child’s homeroom teacher today, no later than Friday, October 9th. Right now our average class size at the Swift-Slaybaugh Complex is 21-25 students. Each class will already have two “Room Parents” who will be in attendance to assist the teachers with party planning and execution. This means that 6-8 additional parents will be able to attend one of each of our three annual parties. If you are only able to attend one of the three parties, obviously you will be given precedence for that particular date. If you are available for all dates, your name will be drawn from the group of available attendees. You will be notified about which party you are invited to by Friday, October 16th.

Fall Parties
If you are invited to the fall party, you will return to school in the afternoon. You must report to the front entrance of your student’s respective school to be vetted and “checked in” before you head to your child’s classroom, so please bring a picture ID with you. Second and Third Grade parents, you will be parking in the bus lot in front of Slaybaugh. Kindergarten and First Grade parents, you can park in either of the two lots in front of Swift. Room Parents, you are welcome to come 20 minutes prior to your respective party's start time. Siblings are not permitted to attend class parties, as our rooms will already be at capacity. Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,
Rachel Casumpang

Important- Picture Days

Just a friendly reminder that our picture days are coming up next week- Swift on Tuesday and Slaybaugh on Wednesday. Please read the information below carefully, as no forms will be sent home in relation to the orders. Thank you!

Party Food Clarification

Only food from the List of Approved Classroom Food List will be permitted at the parties. There are many serious allergies at the school and we must keep all of our students safe and healthy. One clarification, all fruit and vegetable trays must be prepacked from a store, to avoid any cross-contamination in a home kitchen. Also, please no food items in any treat bags that are sent in. Unfortunately, we have had many people add items that are not allergy-safe in the past and we do not have time to check every bag that comes in. Thank you so much for your partnership in keeping all of our young students safe.

Student Achievment

Academic Achievers

Our SSC Wings has started a new monthly award this year, Academic Achievement certificates! These monthly awards will be for students who have really showed growth, progress, and hard work in any particular area of their academics. This is NOT an honor roll award. Only one or two students per class will get this award each month and not receiving the award does not mean that the other students are not doing an excellent job as well. Please see September's winners below. Great job, everyone!

Fire Prevention Assemblies

A big thank you to the Scullville Fire Company for coming to our school on Friday and meeting with each grade level to review fire safety and let the students check out their fire truck, along with an EMS vehicle. The students were so excited and knew all of the right answer about fire safety! A couple of our students even had their dads here presenting! Thank you again to all of the firefighters and EMS responders who took the time to come meet with our students today. We truly appreciate your bravery and service.
